This trip starts from Mombasa and the Kenyan Coast. We will pick up from your hotel at 6.00am and drive for 30min (from Diani Beach area) to Shimba Hills Game Reserve. The reserve is rich in flora and fauna and hosts the highest density of African elephant in Kenya. Other animal species found in the area are Sable antelope, black and rufous elephant shrew. Game viewing will start immediately until 9.30am when you take a ranger guided walk to the Sheldrick waterfalls an impressive 25 metre high waterfall of fresh spring water,where you can take a dip or just relax.
After an hour or so, return to the vehicle at the observation hill and proceed to the Shimba hills Lodge for your lunch. After lunch, you will have another game drive until 4.00pm when you drive back to your hotel.
You may choose to visit the nearby Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary after lunch.This is a community-owned elephant park, and conservation area for elephants. The sanctuary was formed in the early 1990s as a cooperative project and is an example of ecotourism, as well as community-based-conservation efforts. In this community-based programme, the local people have leased their privately owned property to a community-based trust. The sanctuary is managed for the conservation and preservation of the elephants. In addition it is a valuable source of revenue for the local people.
